Avatar Learning Center teaches math to children from Kindergarten through Grade 12, from basic counting to Pre-Calculus.
Classes are live online, interactive and engaging, in small groups of usually 5 to 6 students and never more than 8. Grades K to 3 meet twice a week for an hour, and grade 4 and up once a week for two hours.
Every grade has three levels, and a free placement assessment chooses the right one.

Math 1 is for children in grade 1, and for kindergartners who are ready for more.

Math 2 is for children in grade 2. It covers addition and subtraction with regrouping, numbers to 1,000, equal groups, money, time and measurement.

Math 3 is for children in grade 3. It covers multiplication and division, area and perimeter, the order of operations, fractions and decimals.

Math 4 is for children in grade 4. It covers multi-digit multiplication and division, factors and multiples, fractions, decimals, measurement and angles.

Math 5 is for children in grade 5. It covers fractions, decimals, negative numbers, ratios, proportions and percent, after a review of whole-number operations.

Class Format
How Our Online Math Classes Work
Small Live Online Classes
Each class is live online, interactive and engaging, with the teacher. Groups are usually 5 to 6 students and never more than 8, so every child asks questions and takes part.
Placed With Their Level
Students learn with others at the same level, so the lesson moves at a pace that suits the group.
Student Portal
Each student joins class, finds slides and materials, and submits homework in the student portal. Homework is checked the moment it is submitted, and students can try again.
Homework Help
A student who is stuck on a homework question can raise a hand in the student portal to ask the teacher for help.

A class, step by step
What Happens in a Math Class
Every student has their own copy of the lesson workbook. The class is built around working on it, not watching.
The teacher explains the new topic
Live online. Every student has their own copy of the lesson workbook, open on their own screen. They follow the explanation on their copy, not a screen share, so they can pause and write on it.
The teacher works through examples
Students work the same examples on their own copy, step by step, and change the numbers to test the method.
Students try problems in class
Each student gets problems to solve during the class on their own copy, with the teacher checking the work and helping where it sticks.
Homework before the next class
A homework set in the student portal, checked the moment it is submitted. Students work on it before the next class, and the next class opens by going over the problems they raised a hand on.

Which grades do your online math classes cover?
We teach math from Kindergarten to Pre-Calculus, grades K to 12, with a course for each grade.
Every grade has three levels: one for children catching up on gaps, one for extra practice and better grades, and one for advanced children who want more challenge. Students are placed with others at their level.
How do you decide which level my child should join?
A free placement assessment decides the level. Every child takes it first. It shows their strengths and the topics that need work.
A child can move up a level during the year.

What is the class schedule like, and can it be adjusted to fit my child's availability?

During the free assessment, we ask about your availability and find a class that fits. Because our groups are small, we often add new class times.
