Online Kindergarten Math Classes | Live, twice a week, one hour each

Online Kindergarten Math Classes, Live and in Small Groups

Kindergarten Math is for children in kindergarten, and for preschoolers who are ready to start. It covers counting and number sense, comparing and sorting, one-digit addition and subtraction, shapes, and first time and calendar ideas. Classes are live online, interactive and engaging, twice a week for one hour, in a small group of 5 to 6 students, never more than 8, so every child takes part.

About this course

What Kindergarten Math at Avatar Covers

Children meet numbers and what they mean: they count objects and steps, match numbers to the things around them, compare more and less, and sort by size, shape and colour. They add and subtract one-digit numbers with objects and on the number line, name the basic shapes, and learn the days of the week, the months and the clock to the hour.

Every class mixes short teacher explanations with hands-on practice, games and logic puzzles, so a five-year-old stays busy and keeps thinking.

What Children Can Do After Kindergarten Math

Counting and number sense

Count forwards and backwards, count groups of objects, and read and write numbers to 20.

Comparing and sorting

Compare groups as more, fewer or the same, and sort objects by size, shape and colour.

Adding and subtracting

Add and subtract within 10 with objects, pictures and the number line, and solve simple word problems.

Shapes

Name circles, triangles, squares and rectangles and find them in everyday things.

Time and the calendar

Say the days of the week and the months in order, and read a clock to the hour.

Thinking out loud

Work through logic puzzles and brain teasers, and explain an answer in their own words.

Three levels, same topics

Which Kindergarten Class Is Right for Your Child?

All three levels cover the same topics, so a child can move between them during the year. The difference is pace, depth and how much practice each topic gets.

Catching up

For children who are new to numbers. Counting and comparing get more time and more games before adding and subtracting.

Building skills

For children who already count a little and want to be sure of their numbers before grade 1. The full set of topics at a steady pace.

Advanced

For children ready for more: bigger numbers, harder puzzles, and a start on the Math 1 topics.

Placement first

The free assessment places your child. Teachers watch the weekly results and recommend a move up when a child is ready.

Kindergarten Math FAQs

Questions Parents Ask About Kindergarten Math

What age is Kindergarten Math for?

Children in kindergarten, usually five or six years old, and preschoolers who are ready for it. The placement assessment tells you. The next course is Math 1.

Does my child need to read?

No. The teacher reads every problem aloud and the work is with objects, pictures and numbers. A child who can count a little and sit with a teacher for an hour online is ready.

Can a five-year-old manage an online class?

Yes, in a class this small. With 5 to 6 children, never more than 8, the teacher talks to each child many times an hour, and the classes are one hour, twice a week, with games and puzzles between the teaching. A parent nearby for the first classes helps with the camera and the microphone.

How does Kindergarten Math relate to what my child learns in school?

Avatar teaches its own curriculum, generally aligned with what schools cover in kindergarten, so it supports schoolwork. It goes further, with more reasoning and more practice, and it prepares a child for Math 1.

How much homework is there?

A short homework after each class, done in the student portal with a parent's help. Each answer is checked as soon as it is submitted, and a wrong answer can be tried again. Plan on about 15 minutes.

When does the course start, and can my child join later?

The 34-week year runs from September to June. A child can join during the year after a placement assessment, and the teacher helps them catch up on the weeks they missed.
